BUTTE TRACK TO BE CUT UP. Butte. Mont.. November 30. — The track of the Butie Fair and Ruing Association is to lie cut up. Anti-racing legislation was passed in Montana last year, and with no hope of restoring the sport the directors of the local racing association have ro-sol.ed t soli the track. The buildings are iK-ing torn down, and the track Is being cut up into building hits. Two American records, one for a quarter and one f- r three-eighths of a mile, stand to tlie credit of this track, which was built by Marcus Paly nineteen years ago. and taken over by the present MMetattM nine years ago at a cost of 5,000. While the track since Mr. Dalys time has lieen at times unused, there had been racing pretty generally since it was built, at a cost of 011.000. Many famous horses and noted horsemen, layers of odds and jockeys of national prominence spent seasons at the P.utte course, and some of the liest-kn.wii ..flioials in the sport were on the pavroll of the Butte Jockey Club. No sooner had the last Montana legislature pa-sed a bill making racing with iictting illegal than H. I. Wilson, head of the Butte Racing Association, declared himself through with the sport in this state. A few days ago the affairs of the association were wound up. and the eighty eight acres within the inclosure will lie platted and cut up into building lots. The district is being rapMlv developed. There are manv buildings on the race track grounds, including the grandstand, a big pavilion and stables.
