» ] ABOUT READY FOR ACTION NEARLY ALL THE HORSES EXPECTED AT NEW ORLEANS NOW GATHERED THERE. Ed Crump Temporarily Out of Training- Because of a Slight Injury— Short Grass Blistered and Retired for a Time Also. New Orleans, La., December 10. — Many more tnrfmen ami followers of the sport have joined the racing colony here during the past few days. They include some noted layers who prefer basking in the sunshine here rather than facing the rigors of winter in the north. Only a few- stables remain to come here, the more pretentious absentees being the strings of Dr. J. S. Tyree and R. F. Carman. Both sent word that they would ship their horses here early next week. Accommodations have also been found for sixteen yearlings that II. O. Corns toe k will bring from California. There will he about 150 two-year-olds at the Fair Grounds for the racing for that age. Ed Crump, the star of J. W. Schorrs stable, is temiiorarily out of training, due to having picked up a nail shortly after his arrival. It was feared for a time that the mishap might lie attended with serious effects, but no complications resulted and he will be in good condition again shortly, according to trainer John F. Schorr. Another crack that is out of commission for the present is Emil Heras English-bred Short Grass. He had a strong blister applied to his forelegs and will lie in retirement for a while. Some of the racing crowd now here will depart tomorrow by steamer for Havana to tie in attendance at the opening of Oriental Park. Among those who will go to the Cuban capital are James Arthur and Hart Dernhani. C. R. Ellison arrived today and will remain until after the racing ends.
