WEST AUSTRALIAN REGULATIONS. Tlie report of the joint committee of the two Houses of Parliament in West Australia on the regulation of racing in that state includes a recommendation that three-quarters should lie the minimum distance for two-year-old stakes, and that there should lie at least one mile and a quarter race for older horses at each meeting. All street betting is to be prohibited and all bookmakers on race courses, only the totalizator being legalized. It is also recommended that the sweeps conducted in Tasmania be barred from doing business in West Australia, which is to have six sweeps of its own on racing events, the yearly profits to be devoted to improving the breed of horses, by subsidizing sires and increasing the values of purses.
