CANADIAN EMBARGO ON HORSES REMOVED. The removal Of the embargo on horses leaving the Dominion will be some compensation for horsemen In Canada, owners of horses l.ave. however, been unfortunately placed during the past tea months since the embargo became effective. Without any domestic trade for ordinary commercial purposes to speak of. they Were not only barred from shipping animals a i ross the line, hut suffered all year from the uncertainties of a spasmodic trade with various army officials in litis country. The Dominion government, from time to time, debarred the Imperial govern meul lrom purchasing in Canada, and up until the late autumn French army commissioners were not I allowed to operate. During the year, according to a local official, the Canadian government bought throughout Canada 18,000 war horses. That is not many, in view of the fact that there were 3,000.000 on farms iu Canada. Even allowing for stern exigencies of the war. there seems little reason why the market should have been so c tie ■•lively limited. Time after time, when the movement of Imrses to the various exchanges became well organised, orders came to cease opera lions. In this way the trade was held up and h -s was sustained by all parties on the selling sjde of the trade.
