i . • , • | I ■ . i i • CARRANZA GOVERNMENT QUITE FRIENDLY. That the political changes in Juarez have worked to the material advantage of the Jockey Club Juarez _..es without saying. The curtailment of other forms of gambling brings more money int" play, and the sj book J in the ring find it difficult to handle all the money offered on the vari uts thoroughbreds iu each race. On last Friday col. Matt J. Winn, the president of the Juarez Jockey Club and Ihe general manager of the same organisation, received a visit from a delegation of Mexicans now in control of Juarez. The delegation was headed by the mayor and the visit was a pleasant one. Assurances were given Col. Winn that the Carranza government recog Diced the concession of the Jockey Club Juarez as binding and that every protection would be given the racing organization by those in charge of affairs iu Juarez. Colonel Winn was delighted at the fairness of the Carranza Officials, especially in view of the fact that stories had been circulated to the effect that as soon as Carranza assumed control that he would put a stop c. racing. The only action taken bv the Carranza officials against racing was the closing of the poolroom in Juarez operated by Col. W. E. Aphtegate. ami tins is not to Ik- regretted, as it really works t the advantage of those iu control of the betting rl-jj at the track.
