MORE BREEDING BUREAU EFFICIENCY. New York. January 22. The Jockey Club has appropriated $.3.iMKi for widening the scope of its breeding bureau. This appropriation was made at the suggestion of Frank K. Sturgis, chairman of the breeding bureau Committee, and it will be used in the purchase of suitable mares to he plased in different parts of the state where there are breed-lag bureau stallions. Mr. Sturgis has been indefatigable in his work for the bureau, and this latest appropriation is one that in his opinion will WSCk much good throughout the state. The males will be carefully selected, and with such opportunities the stallions are sure to be of "h much greater value in the improvement of the breed, the purpose for which the bureau was established. In the selection of these mares it is not the intention to purchase thoroughbreds, but rather to choose such matrons that for individuality measure up to requirements. Too often the farmers have sent inferior mares to the public stallions, and while the breeding bureau results have been excellent, they have not been what they should be for this reason. With better mares the worth of the thoroughbred sire will have a correspondingly better chance to be demonstrated.
