He was the owner of Haidee, winner of the Brisbane Cup of 1907. Redfern was in trouble on the way to Sydney with an attack of colic. He was taken off a train Kuroa. and then kept for two days at Albury. He has quite recovered. A couple of two-year olds, by Phoenix— Soeur Marie and Back Sand — Valdivia respectively, have arrived from France at Felix, Leachs establishment Newmarket to In* trained. B. Johnson, who headed the winning jockey list for the last six years at Marseilles, and rode the final winner in France before the war. lias ar-rived in Englaud to join the colors and has enlisted. The jockey P. Firth, who was some time back erroneously reported to have died, has lieen riding for Mr. T. M. Thaddeus In India, where he has had gixid season, having ridden twenty-five winners up to latest reports. Marechal Ml II If. which as a three year-old. defeated Pietri in a desperate finish for the Baher Cup at Sundown, has for some months past been utili/.ed as a charger by bis owner. Mr. J. MacKay, an ollicer in the Sussex Yeomanr. . Hall Walker first began to own steeplechasers and fiat racers he was an enthusiast in pony racing and polo. As a rider of pony races he achieved a wonderful record, winning 120 races out of 250 attempt-. No fewer than forty of those victories were gained on his remarkable pony. Dorothy, a daughter of Exmiuster son of New-minster. Tiie Metropolitan Handicap Steeplechase of 500 i sovereigns, to he run at Haldoyle. Lord Reeeberya mare Signorinetta, ■winner of 1 the Derby and Oaks in 1888, foaled at Durdans Stud on January IS a bay colt by Cicero. Both 1 the mare and foal are doing well. Signorinetta 1 was purchased by Lord Kosebery from Chevalier Ginistrelli in Hill after she had failed to reach a 1 big reserve put upon her at the Newmarket December sales. It would seem that this son of two Derby winners should prove something of a racer • himself. During an interval of the racing at Lingfield. Dainty. Piggott and Frank Lyall interviewed Lord 1 Essex, one of the -towards, on the question of f Iheir licenses to ride. It was pointed out to his s lordship that they were in an awkward predicament.
