TOMPKINS HORSES TO MAKE A LATE START. Big Colony of Trainers and Horses Preparing at the Old Benning Track. New York. March ::. — Grwyna TompaJaa will be gin racing his steeplechasers at Belmont Park this year, it has been his custom to start in Maryland, then go to Canada and join the eastern contingent at Saratoga. J. Kermath, who fomerly rode the Tompkins horses, now holds the position of trainer. 1 here is quite a colony of trainers aad horses at Benning. Mike Daly has ten horses belonging to various owners; M. Brady, six, the property of J. E. Davis: V. M. Carter, nine: Matt Smart, ten. belonging to Captain C. K. Rockwell and .ether army officers; J. Murphy, foar; F. Kraft. s!x. owned by V. T. Anderson, and William Garth, thirty-two. belonging to varioas owners. Besides these there are the stables of R k. Carman. W. Shields and Y. F. Bureh. All the liorses are doing well and many are being prepared for the opening of the eastern racing season at Bowie, April 1. At the annual meeting of the Turf and Field Clttb. held yesterday at is Fast Forty-first street, the following officers were elected for the year 1016: F. K. Btargis, president: Henry W. Bull, vice-president; John K. Cowdiu. treasurer, and John G. Liv.ngstoii. secretary. An executive committee consisting of Searle Barclay. .Ir.. Henry W. Bull. John G. Livingston and Madison Grant was also elected. A number of new members were elected, an indication of encouraging prospects for the coming racing season.
