Edwards of the Metropolitan Jockey Club lias • made known the stakes th.lt will be offend at the ■ Jamaica course for its two spring meetings. The • racing season in New York is to begin at the Ja-■Mica LOW PC May IS with a six days meeting. and the sport will return there June 15 for eight days. With tiie meeting split up in this fashion i there will be five stakes decided at the first meeting, while seven have been scheduled for the second. All through the list there is shown an increase in the money that will be offered, and a new fixture ■ has been added to the list. This has been christened the Stuyvesant Handicap and it is a three-quarters dash for three-year-olds with §1.500 in i added money. It would not be at all surprising to i find it one of the richest of the stakes offered. The Excelsior Handicap retains its position at the head of the races for three-year-olds and over. Last year it had a guaranteed value of ,500, while this rear it will lie worth . As formerly it is over the mile and a sixteenth distance. Both the Kinus County and tiie Long Beach H.in-dieaps are revived, but each lias an added valu •■ of ,000 instead of the ,500 added that was ; hung up last year. The Kings County is a mile and a sixteenth, while the Long Beach is a mile and an eighth. Last year, with the ,500 added. the Kiius County was worth ,575 with only three •tartera, while the Long Beach was worth ,700. They will both he worth much in esci ss ,,f this at the coming meeting, for in addition to the increase in the added aioacy, it is a sure thing there will be a greater number of starters. The Paumoaoa Handicap, always ■ popular race with the apriatem, shows an increase of 00 over •■♦ rear, when it had a guaranteed Value of ,500. The other two stakes for the older division ire the Harden Cits and the Newtown, both uelling st ikes. They have also been increased 00, now being ,800 dashes instead of SI. urn. The Southampton Handicap for three-year-olds, at a mile and a sixteenth, With ,800 added, is revived, and the Stuyve-sarit. already mentioned. has been added to the list. There are four stakes for the two-year -old ... and each one is a revival of fixtures of last vear. The Youthful has been raised from ,000 to ,500, the Boaedale, for fillies, remains at ,000, while the two selling stakes, the Greenfield and the Suffolk, have each been raised from ,000 to ,500. Secretary Edwards has s,p arranged his stake program that the Bcxehdor, for so long tie- open ing feature of the meeting at Jamaica, will not be run until the second meeting. This his been done with a view of affording horsemen a longer tini" and better opportunity to bare their horses ready for the race. The other races that will be decided at tie- second meeting are the Long Beach and Southampton handicaps, tie- Newtown stakes and the Youthful. Bosedale and Greenfield in the two rear-old division. This leaves the foBowlag to he decided at the first meeting: Paumonek, Kin-s County and Btuyvesant handicaps, Garden City and the Suffolk Stakes. All of these stakes are to he closed April 5.
