MANY HORSES NOW AT BENNING TRACK. All Are in Thriving Condition and Being Pointed for Bowie Racing. Baltimore. Md.. March 16-At the present writing it looks h if the horses in training at Benning would cut eon-id. r.;ble figure in the Bowie meeting, which will open the eastern racing season April 1. While the stables at the Washington track are not in as forward condition as in yean past, they have had good. Bseful work all along and, with the advent of warm weather, will shape up rapidly in the fortnight that remains before the opening at Bowie. Among the hois lie n who are tuning up their strings at Benning are William Garth. Lewis Garth, W. M. Carter. William Shields. K. F. Carman, llliam Brooks. Fred Kraft, who has the horses of W. T. Anderson in charge; Matt Brady, with the J E. Davis jumpers; ll:.rvey Boyle, W. P. Burch, John Kelley and Max Smart. Lewis Garth will train this season exclusively for Edward McLean. Washington millionaire. v ho has got together a winning stable of jumpers headed by the- crack Bonny Laddl which was purchased tor 112,000 from J. Howard Lewis about a fortnight ago. Bonny Laddie is a five-vear-old by Domett — Maid of the Order, and was one of last years star jumpers, being beaten i.nlv once daring the racing season. Besides Bonny Laddie. Mr. McLean lias Exton. Which came into i special prominence last fall When he defeated Gwyn Tompkins Weld-hip in a match race at AVur-renton. Aa.; Faker, which ran third m last seasons Barter Hill Cap; Btacco, which won for Lewis , Garth on the Canadian circuit last year; Rhomb, and Fugitive, a green three-year-old which gives , great promise. Mr. McLean has thus far made but few investments in flat racing horses, but has a likely two-year-old by Golden Maxim— Nancy B., a I half-brother to Bal Parrs good jumper. I.ally Bay.
