WESTY H0GAN SURPRISES SPECTATORS. Lexington. Ky.. April 14. — John O. Whitlows Westy Hogan electrified the work watchers at the Kentucky Association course this morning when he ran a quarter in 199%, three-eighths in 34% and pulled up at the half mile in r,0. The brown son of Diek Finnell and Carrie Jones started at the half-mile ground, ran around thr- far turn uphill, then around the third turn and was fairly flying when he hit the stretch and his owner and trainer began waving him down. When he finished he was under strong restraint and slowing to a canter. Old timers declared that they had never seen any other horse put up so swift a performance over this track. Westy llogau is eligible to the Breeders Futurity, which is to l e run May 13. On this work he will have a strong following for the race. Other good moves by two-year-olds today were: Pas de Chance — Half mile in 50. Private Half mile in 50--,. Pulaski — Half mile in 50%. Yermila -Three -eighths in 37%. Petroyna — Three-eighths in 37%. Katenka — Half mile in 51. Basilius — Half mile in 51. Cpmacho — Half mile in 51%, all from the stable of J. O. Keene. T. C. McDowells horses worked a mile as follows: Waterhlossom. 1:44; Blanehita. Dark Flower and Star Jasmine. 1:45; Checks, 1:45%; Poppee, 1:45%: Votary, 1:50; Primero. 1:46%. T. P. Hayes worked his Kentucky Derby team. Kinney and Jack ODowd, a mile in 1:45. the first three-quarters in 1:15. Hawthorn went three-quarters in 1:15 for J. C. Milam, and Embroidery, from the same stable, five-eighths in 1:04%. Benin Ii S.. a six -year-old mare by Filigrane — Maid of the Order, died this morning at the track. She was the property of Dan W. Scott.
