NONESUCH WINS NARROWLY TAKES THE ABERDEEN STAKES IN A HEAD FINISH WITH BONDAGE. Ambrose Outruns Flittergold and Skeer Face — Over a Hundred Jumping Horses Gathered at Pimlico Already — Track Gossip. Baltimore. Md.. April 24. — The Aberdeen Stakes, a four and a half furlongs dash for two-year-olds, was offered this afternoon as the carded feature at Havre de Grace, and resulted in a stirring finish in which J. E. McGraths Nonesuch stuck it out to win from Bondage by a short head,, with Dunga Din a similar short distance behind the first two. A well-matched field went to the post for the event, with J. S. Tyrees untried Sea Gull an added sturter. most fancied by the talent. His performance was a disappointment, however. The Alierdeen Stakes had its fourth running to date and its condensed history is now: Year. Winner. Wt. Jockey. Val. Time. 1913 Enver Bey 109 R. Troxler. ,450 :55 1914 Jesse Jr KM J. McCahey. 1.210 :55 1915 George Smith ..10S.T. Butwell.. 1.110 :53% 1910 Nonesuch 108 T. Prington 1.135 :54% A handicap for three-year-olds and over at one mile and seventy yards attracted the best field of the day. The winner turned up from an unexpected quarter, when Ambrose led all the way and scored in game fashion over Flittergold and Skeer Face. A large crowd braved a chill wind that swept over the course and the visitors were well rewarded by spirited racing. Jockey W. McDermott was suspended for the remainder of the meeting by the stewards for rough riding on Valerie West. Pimlico will have a bigger colony of jumpers this spring than ever before in the history of the Maryland Jockey Club. Paul Fox and Gene Finnegan. with his jumper Aherfeldy. were arrivals today. The horsemen at Havre de Grace are becoming interested in the protective association that was formed in Kentucky this spring and a strong branch has been organized here. As the name would suggest, it is for the betterment of conditions for horsemen and they hope to become strong enough to demand better purses than are offered at many of the race tracks, as well as bringing about other reforms in the sport.
