TAKING NOTE OF AMERICAN BREEDING. In the CMcago Daily Racing Form. Dr. M. M. Leach, who has several times visited this country, published MM interesting statistics relative to the leading broodmares of the 1nited States last year. Dr. Leach points out that Hamburgs position is due to the excellence of the winning produce of Jersey Lightning, the dam of Thunderer. Regret and Rarnegat. which won over 0,000. Three of Hanovers daughters each bred three winners and seven of them bred a couple of winners. It is interesting to note that three generations, viz., Hamburg, Hanover and Hindoo find places in the list. Sixty-one Meddler mares are in the American Stud Book, and of these twenty -five bred winners, while nine of the twenty-five daughters of Star Shoot appear as producers of winners in 1915. Having regard to the great achievements of Isinglass mares in this country, ami also bearing iu mind the great value of the daughters of Hermit Star Shoot is out of a Hermit mare it is not unlikely that the son of Isinglass will eventually make his way to the head of the list. The record of Exile is remarkable. There are now only seven mares by him. Four of these bred eight winners of nineteen races. Borrow, the high est winner of the year, is out of Forget, by Exile. She is also the dam of Slumlierer and Bemembrance, winners of 1915. Winter, another daughter of Exile, also bred three winners. Seven of the eleven mares by Domino bred winners. They include Dominant, one of the best colts of the year. Dr. Leach states that the youngest daughters of Rayon dOr must now be twenty years old. Seven of them bred nine winners of thirty-two races. Bonavista conies in the list through his daughter Rose Tree which won the Wokingham Stakes in 1901. the dam of Roam-er. a winner of eight races of the value of 2.778 sovereigns. — London Bloodstock Breeders Review, April 1, 1910.
