ACHIEVEMENTS GOOD RACE CARRIES HIGH WEIGHT AND DEFEATS CE-LANDRIA IN THE PIKESVILLE HANDICAP. Rain Slows the Pimlico Track but Does Not Prevent a Big Attendance — Early Light Wins Another Steeplechases — Track Notes. Baltimore. Mil.. May 5. — Wilfrid Viaus Achievement, carrying 125 pounds, was returned winner of the likesville Handicap at Pimlico this afte-rnoon. The- field that contested the race was a good one and the victory of the winner was well earneel. as he was forced to stand a hard drive. Celanelria was the se-cond horse at the- end. while Bernie-e was a good third. Scratches redue-ed the field to nine starters and the race was spirite-d throughout. Heavy rains last night made the e-ourse slow, but under the influence of a hot sun and the efforts of the track fore-e. the going gradually improved as the afternoon wore on. The- Towson selling steeplechase was won by H. G. Beelwells Early Light. Favorites were again in eclipse, long-priced winners se-oring in a majority of the races. A big crowd was again in attenelaiie-e and speculation as brisk throughout the afternoon. W. R. Mizells Robert Bradley was sent through the field this morning and scheioled over the jumps, on the advice of William Garth. The sprinter took kindly to the obstacles and it is possible that he may develop into a useful steeplechaser. W. L. Oliver has announceel that he will dispose of Semper Stalwart and Filly Delphia at auction. Word was received from H. S. Newman, who is at present at his home in Sweetwater. Texas, that the horse Noynim. which was operated upon at Hot Springs for an abse-ess. has fully ree-overed and probably will be hack to the races next fall. H. G. Bedwell will ship a pretentions string to Toronto at the close of this meeting, while-a division of the stable will be left at the farm near Laurel. Mr. Be-dwell is busy preparing Sir Edgar to go to the post in the rich Toronto Cup and is sanguine of his chances. Next Monday the seventh rae-e, for two-year-olds, will be a claiming race. The conditions provide that all horses, including the winner, can be claimed for ,000. if the money is deposited in "the see-retarys office within a period of thirty minutes after the race. Richard T. Wilson, president of the Saratoga Racing Association, was a visiter this afternoon and viewed the races from the clubhouse enclosure. John Richardson will ship Between l"s to Toronto May 16. He received word from J. Lumsden. a prominent Ottawa lumber merchant, to be on the lookout for promising two-year-old material to strengthen the stable, but has found none so far. The memliership of the horsemens association has increas.-d with a rush during the past few days. Jockey J. Metcalf will go to Canada to ride for the Tyre-e stable, which is liberally represented in the stakes to be decided there.
