VELVET JOE, showing his true f orm today, moved up steadily and, finishing fast, overhauled LADY IVAN in the final stride. LADY IVAN showed high speed and only tired slightly near the end. PIRAEUS raced well up from the start and held on gamely through the last eighth. TRUSTY set the early pace and showed much sp eed to the last eighth, but tired. PARAMOUNT ran well. FRANKLIN was away slowly and had to be hard urged all the way, but wore WATERBLOSSOM down in the last eighth and outstayed her in a game finish. WATERBLOSSOM had an advantageous start and showed fine speed in paceiuakiug, but succumbed after a game final effort. ED CRUMP was outpaced all the way, but ran a good race and finished close up. EMBROIDERY began slowly and moved up rfast and gamely in the stretch, but could not get to the winner. GROVER HUGHES raced close up for the entire way and finished fast. HANK ODAY dropped back on the far turn and came again in the stretch. CHECKS set the early pace and tired. HANOVIA was always outpaced. The winner, entered for 00, was bid up to ,900 and bought in. The latter set a fast early pace and held on resolutely to the end. HIGHLAND LAD ran a good race, but bsgan tiring near the end. BUFORI was forced back in the first eighth and was gaining at the end. MARS CASSIDY was far back for the first quarter, then moved up fast and made a game finish. PORT LIGHT showed high speed and set a fast pace, but tired slightlv right at the end. SAUTERELLE set the early pace and tired after going three-quarters. GUIDE POST dropped back in the first half and ran an extremely bad race for her.
