WHENCE DODGE DERIVED HIS NAME. D-idge, Weber and, Wards crack Jim Gaffney colt, winner of the Latonia Derby and numerous other races, is not named for Mr. Wards brother-in-law, Major Y. K. Dodge of Lexington, as is generally supposed, but for the automobile by that name. Mr. Ward is three-fifths owners of the Phoenix Motor Car Co.. of Lexington, which handled the Dodge and Franklin cars at the time Dodge was named, and as he was net considered as high-class as Franklin, be was named for the cheaper car. and Franklin also by Jim Caflney for the higher-priced one. This year Mr. Ward has carried out the same idea in naming his two good two-year-olds by Jim Gaffney. Berlin and Sedan, after two models of the Franklin car, this firm is now bulling.
