ACHIEVEMENT WINS THE HAMILTON DERBY. Great Assemblage Views the Decision of the Meetings Most Important Race. Hamilton. Out.. June 28. — Wilfred Yiaus Hastings colt Achievement accounted for the Hamilton Derby this afternoon. He was ridden by J. Met-ealf. followed the pacemaker. Damrosch. for a mile, then raced into an easy lead and won going away by three lengths. The mile and a iu.irter was run in 2:06%, which is good time for the track. Damrosch set a last early pace, but his impost of 12." pounds told at the end and he tired badly. Achievement will be shipped back to New York to join the remainder of the Viau horses at Aqueduct. The attendance this afternoon was the largest of the meeting. Apart from the Derby, the program was a good one. tin- added features being the Oak-ville Handicap, which proved an easy thing for the fast Canadian sprint-r. Kama, and the June Selling Handicap, which was won by Fountain Fay. John Shields, who has been racing a string of horses at Tijuana, was an arrival from California yisterday and will remain for the rest of the season on tin- Canadian circuit. K. G. Mines, who has a couple of two-year-olds here in charge of J. A. Sy!;cs. is making an effort to purchase the sprinter Rringhurst. Joseph McLennan will have here for New York Satnrdav Might to consult with Matt J. Winn regarding the condition book to ha issued for the fall meeting at Laurel. It is understood that the list of stakes to be announced will include several important fixtures. Mr. Winn and his associates are s|M-nding money freely on the Laurel plant. The track is being graded and resoiled and about 400 new stables are being erected. When completed the plant will be one of the most sightly in Maryland. It is understood that The Widow Moon, which has Ik on retired to the stud, will be mated with Smokehouse. The twoyo:.r-olds Ruddy and Lady Moll in the Mirasol Stalile are down with fever. Lieut. J. K. L. Ross came down from Montreal to see his colt Damrosch run in the Derby this afternoon. Mis. I,. A. Livingston announced yesterday that this will be her last year in racing. She will, however, continue breeding thoroughbreds at her Ran-cocas Farm in New Jersey, but will make no attempt to race iiny of the produce in the future. All of the horses she is racing in Canada this summer will be disposed of at private sales. John Nixon has disposed of the Canadian-bred colt Shrovetide to Hash WBaaa. The latter may mak- a steeplechaser of his new purchase. K. J.
