CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. There is talk of an attempt to hold a race meeting in October over the Maxwellton track built by Joseph A. Murphy and his associates at St. Louis a few years ago. Xow that racing at Tijuana has closed, it is said that many of the 400 horses will remain there until the season opens again in November. One or two carloads will be sent to Reno for the September meeting in that city. "Take off those bandages," said J. W. Hedrick after Katenka had won at Saratoga Tuesday, "and I may bid on the filly." Because of this comment, the bandages around Katenkas legs were taken off. One glance and the man with the halter sa:d: "I dont want her; her legs are too bad." Si Veitclt is schooling Aliara for C. R. Fleisch-mann, and this plater has been showing great aptitude for jumping. Veitch is also handling Frank J. Xolans Henry Jr., a candidate for the Harbor Hill Cup, and reports this tliree-year-ohl has been going through the field promisingly in private. The steeplechaser Ex ton, which broke down in the Shillelah Handicap Monday, ran in the name of William P. Spurgeon, formerly managing editor of the Washington Post, and now managing editor of the Washington Herald. It is to be hoped that his injury will not prove permanent.
