ULTIMATUM raced in close pursuit of the leader from the start and drew clear in the linal eighth, but tired in the closing strides. RALLY began slowly, but -steadily improved his position and lin-ishert with a belated rush. SEDAN set a fast pace, but came wide when entering the homestretch and tired in the final sixteenth. INTRIGUER finished well. RIPOSTA showed speed to the stretch. KATENKA was slightly impeded at the start, but gained steadily and, after having slipped through next to the rail when entering the homestretch, drew clear in the final eighth and won going away. STORM NYMlII showed excellent speed and hung 011 gamely to the finish. MARIE ODILE set a fast pace, but was shutUed back at the eighth post when challenged, then came again under punishment and outstayed SOLVEIG. The hitter ran well and finished gamely. HANK ODAY, after being saved under slight restraint in the early running, took the lead at his riders leisure and won with speed in reserve. CHICLET moved up steadily after entering the homestretch, but could never get to the leader. DORCAS was a forward contender throughout and outstayed POLKOMA in the final drive. The hitter closed a gap. GAINER closed up rapidly on the stretch turn and tired in the final eighth. LEO SKOLNY was not perseveied with after tiring in the stretch. GRUMPY was knocked back at the start and closed a big gap. BURGLAR saved ground on all the turns and outstayed POLITICIAN in the final drive. The latter ran well and hung on more gamely than usual. SHOOTING STAR closed an immense gap. MEDITATION was in close quarters all the way. The winner, entered for 1916.sh00, was bid up to ,700 and sold to J. L. McGinnis.
