CONMTJGHT PARK MEETING ALL IN READINESS AT THE DOMINIONS CAPITAL FOR ITS LAST TURF REUNION. ALout Six Hundred Horses at the Track to Furnish Good Racing All Selling Races to Be Claiming Races Stecplcchasing to Be a Feature. Ottawa. Out., August 25. Everything is in readiness for the opening of the final meeting of the 1010 season at Connaught Park. A good offering is carded, consisting of seven well-matched fields, including one race over the jumps. The feature is to be the Capitol City Purse, at one mile. The lirst race on the program calls for Canadian-bred three-year-olds and over, to meet under selling conditions, at one mile. The management has arranged for one Canadian-bred race and one jumping race each day, as Ottawa racegoers an? fond of steeplechasing. Light showers last night only served to put the track in first class condition. The steeplechase course will benefit particularly, as the course was hard and the showers have left it in splendid order. There are about six hundred horses stabled at the track and more to arrive later. Some of the stables were delayed owing to a shortage of cars. The management has fifty new stalls under way and fifty more will be started at the conclusion of the meeting. Witli the class of horses stabled here, secretary Cranford Ross is optimistic and predicts this "will be the banner meeting in the history of the club. The following notice was posted in the secretarys office: "All selling races to be run during the fall meeting of the Connaught Park Jockey Club will be claiming races, for the entered price, plus the value of the purse to the winner." G. A. Alexandra claimed Volant from H. G. Redwell after he won the last race at Windsor on Wednesday for ,250. J. W. Healy arrived here this morning from Mount Royal with the following horses: Queen of the Sea. Rhymer. Cherry Belle. Captain Parr. Duke of Dunbar and the jumpers Jack Winston, Queed and Garter. Among the steeplechase riders who arrived this morning to take part iu this branch of the sport u-ere: Brooks, Clarke. Johnson, Pembertoh. Russell, Simpson and Scully. Frank Capra, who has been making engagements for jockey T. Parrington, has also taken over the engagements for the apprentice R. McDermott, who is under contract to the Mirasol Stable. Jockey W. Warrington, who was shaken up a bit when Souvenir stumbled at Windsor and threw him, was an arrival today and will ride during this meeting. Sheridan Clarke is serving here as racing secretary and will act in the same capacity at Dorval.
