PLANS OF THE BILLINGS STABLE. New York, September -1. Charles T. Patterson will not. take the Johnson anil Billings horses to the Maryland circuit, but will ship directly to winter quarters, probably at Hot. Springs, Ark., at the close of the Belmont Park meeting. The bay colt. Spear Lance, is now a gelding as he displayed such temper in training that, it was deemed wise to make the change. Trainer Patterson says that lie regards Omar Khayyam highly for the reason that he lias been the most useful colt in the high-priced collection, although he was one of the cheap ones, having cost only about ,500 at Newmarket. He Ktill has a high opinion of Bachelors Hope, but he does not look upon him a a two-year-old prospect :inv longer. He, like many others of the highest-priced colts in the importation, has become too gross and massive for two-year-old racing. Words o Wisdom, by Cicero, is one of his favorites. He is of moderate size, although long and stout. He has a great turn of speed.
