NOTES OF THE TURF FROM OTHER LANDS. The Irish crack. Ballaghtobin, engaged in the Cesarewitch and Cambridgeshire, has arrived at S. Pickerings stable at Newmarket from Ireland. The American jockey, Milton Henry, will remain at San Sebastian during the whole of the meeting. He -will ride for the Duke of Toledo, Mr. T. P. Thorne and M. J. Leiux. The Royal Stakes of ,500. to be run for at Newbury on the opening day of the summer meeting in 1919, has closed with an entry of 1711 a figure well in excess of the 150 required by the promoters. The Champion Breeders Foal Stakes, to be decided at the Derby Summer meeting of 1918, has closed with a subscription of 17-. now foals, of Trhich no fewer than seventeen are nominated by Sir Mark Sykes. Encouraged bv the success obtained by his horses at San Sebastian, King Alfonso XIII. . it is said, intends increasing his racing stud, and that his great ambition is to see his colors carried in the Grand Prix de Paris and the Epsom Derby. The Grand Prize of Hanover, which was run for on August ti, was won by the Graditz Studs Ecco. The race was for two-year-olds and worth 1916.sh,250. Kceo Is by Gulliver II. Eccola. and he defeated seven others. There was racing on the same afternoon also at Hoppegarten, Magdeburg and Neuss-on-the-Rhine a total of four meetings, and also a big trotting meeting at Altona-Bahrcnfeld.
