LADI RQTHA DISAPPOINTS IS OUTPACED PROM START TO FINISH BY HUNTRESS IN LEXINGTONS MAIN RACE. Cudgel Recovers His Speed Suddenly Old Kcotcnay Takes His Race Galaway No longer a Maiden Macombcr Horses Ready. Lexington, Ky., September III. Tin; biggest upset of the Kentucky Associations meeting came vitli tin; running of todays feature race, a mile handicap, in -which AV. 1!. linkers Lady Rot ha ruled a prohibitive favorite ami was outpaced by Mrs. .1. C. Yoagers Huntress to the tinish. Huntress showed a keen flight of speed for the entire race and held the favorite safe at all points. An added source of vexation for the hackers of Lady Rotha was the fact that she paid as much for place as she would have done had she landed in advance of Huntress. Contention for Lady Rotha was expected from Hanovia. hut that filly, after racing forwardly for three-quarters, retired and had all she could do to outstay the fast-coming Dorothy Dean. Ideal weather was the main contributing factor in bringing out the full strength of racing devotees here this afternoon, for only six races were offered and, in some of these, the contestants were of ordinary calibre indeed. The two-year-old dash at live and a half furlongs also brought an upset when .1. A. Schorrs Cudgel, showing a suddenly improved performance as compared with hi:; last previous one, won in easy fashion from good opposition, that included the AAickliffe Stables J.asil, making his first start at the track. The finish in this race for the minor positions was spectacular, noses separating Basil, Judge Young and Rosabel. The latter piit badly in the stretch racing after enjoying a substantial lead. The talent began auspiciously when ICootenay. confidently backed, galloped off in easy style with the purse in the opener. Galaway was another favorite to score. lie showed the way to the other maidens in the third race. Trainer AV. 1". Jennings, of the extensive A. K. Macombcr stable, was among I lie visitors and stated that all the hors-s under his charge shipped in good style from Ilelmout Iark and will be raced often during the Iouisville meetings. T. Hurt. Talbott. a member of the Kentucky State? Racing Commission, was at the track and witnessed the racing. The extensive band of yearlings that. Corrigan and McKinney bought, this year will be sent. In the Kingston Stud, where they will be broken and prepared for next years racing. The horses that miner Clancy brought, here from Louisville will be returned there and wintered at Louisville. Illaek Coffee and Believe Me Hoys are the latest additions to the extensive ailing list of racers owned by K. It. llradley.
