UPSETS AT DOUGLAS PARK i J. J. MURDOCK RUNS IN SUDDENLY IMPROVED FORM AND WINS EASILY. 1 Mary Belle Badly Beaten and Unplaced Sisaga 1 Wins for the Macomber Stable Weights for the Louisville Cup. I ! Louisville, Ky., September -0. .1. .T. Murdock, which on the opening day of the Douglas lark . meeting failed to finish better than third, while running as an outstanding favorite, tliis afternoon ! won the feature race from a fair band of sprinters ; in easy fashion after having shown high speed for the entire nice. In his last start he was ridden by F. Fuerst. Today .1. Kederis had the mount and the change -worked a surprising improvement. John W. Klein, which was the victor in the race in ! which .1. J. Murdock was so easily beaten a few 1 days ago, could do no better than land fourth this ifternoon, and he showed a fairly good performance j in elosiqg a big gap in the last quarter. ISalmy weather, which prevailed, was largely re- sponsible for the excellent patronage accorded the : sport this afternoon. Small fields were the rule, but most of the starters were of ordinary caliber and in many instances the races were attended by upsets. The first upset developed in the opener, when Hen Ilampson, the favorite, and County Court, a supposed "good thing," were beaten. Blucbannock, an outsider, with "grandpa" Shannon in the saddle, won after a hard drive with the favorite. Nobleman won with much ease in the third nice from Irimero and Kootenay. His victory was a forgone conclusion after he hail passed Hawthorn, at present only a shadow of his former greatness. Nobleman was supported almost to the exclusion of the others. The worst setback that the talent experienced came in the fifth raee when Mary Belle, ruling at prohibitive odds, failed to run to a place. She was well up to the stretch where she began tiring, and Goose failed to persevere with her, with the result that, she finished out of the money. The purse went, to A. K. Macombers Sisaga. which won in a hard drive with Fan O., bought by II. Fink before the race. After Noblemans victory he was advanced 400 by .1. A. Gibson over his entered price of 1,000, but was bought in. Secretary Jasper distributed to owners today the program book of the Churchill Downs meeting. Chief Deputy Sheritr I. M.
