Sand Marsh Takes the Principal Race of tho Day Foreign Commissions Lower Prices Weights for Saturdays Stake Race. Baltimore. Md., September 20. An all-aged handicap at three-quarters, which served as todays feature at Havre de Grace, brought out a surprisingly large number of high-class sprinters, with the best in this section engaged. The winner turned up in Sand Marsh, which, after following the fast pacemaker, Prince of Como, raced into the lead on the stretch turn and, under a strong finish by nutwell, lasted long enough to win from the lightly weighted Ima Frank. The latter moved up resolutely after entering the stretch, but could not quite get up in a good finish. Foreign commissions on horses racing here have had the effect of materially affecting the pil-es paid on some of the winners, when the money bet has been sent back to the track and wagered in the machines, two notable instances of this being Madame Herrmann in the seventh race yesterday Mild Glory Belle today. The money which came back on the latter, not only made the price much shorter, but was responsible for many of the talent stringing along, as there was little form to the starters in the race. Glory Belle won easily nnd was afterwards the medium for a run up by I. AA Hcdrick, who advanced her from S100 to . She was protected by trainer George M. Odom. Stalwart Helen won a close decision from Gold-Test Boy in the fourth. She was outrun, as usual, mt finished with a great burst of speed through the stretch and got up in time. Anderson, who rode Goldcrest Boy. showed too much confidence :fter he. had raced into an early le d and was unprepared for Stalwart Helens rush In the final slx-reenth. Perfect weather and track conditions prevailed nd the attendance was noticeably larger than during tho two preceding days. Trainer George Odom scratched Ycllowstoue from the seventh race today on account of the colt !i-;ving a high temperature this morning. Hanson was kicked on the stifle while at the post in the third race and pulled up lame. Stalwart Helen, winner of the fourth race was trained by C. K. Moore, who, until a few days ago, was trainer for the Hedrick establishment, whosu Goldcrest Boy was second to Stalwart Helen. The victory of Napoleon was the second of tho lay for maidens that were sold at the dispersal of the Brighton Stable, Glory Belle being the other. J. AA Hedrick has sold Murphy, which he acquired mt of a selling race, to C. K. Moore at private sale. The weights arc out for the Havre de Grace Handicap to be run Saturday. It is at one mile and an eighth and the The Finn is accorded top weight of 129 pounds. The field will likely come from the following: The Finn. 129; Roamer, 12G; Stromboli, 123; Short Grass. 11S; Bayberry Candle. 115; Capra. 103; Flittergold, 107; Fernrock, 103; md Eagle. 93. Marshall and AVendell Cassidy, sons of starter Mars Cassidy, arc visitors here. The former, who asssits his father at the barrier, will be with the starter at Laurel. Jockey D. Steward was suspended for three days by the stewards for crossing in front of Running 5hot in the first race. W. It. Mizell will in the future look after the engagements of jockey McAtee. Aalerle AVest, winner of the last race, suffered a severe cut above the ankle on one of her front legs. It probably was due to having struck herself during the running.
