MALACHITES FINE SPEED TAKES THE PRINCIPAL HAVRE DE GRACE RACE FROM START TO FINISH. Golden Rod and Golden Vale in Front Sangallo Reported to Be Doing Well Valerie West Seriously Injured in Her last Race. Baltimore, Md., September 21. A much better program than is usually up for decision on off-days was offered today at Havre de Grace and was responsible for an increased attendance, and likewise heavier speculation. Owners of two-year-olds and cheap platers certainly have no occasion to find fault with the conditions framed by Secretary Fred Rehbergcr. as there are plenty of races framed for these particular horses and. the fact that they fill rapidly, shows what the horsemen want. The feature of todays racing was a handicap at one mile and seventy yards for mares and geldings of all ages. While it attracted a field of only four, it proved a good speculating medium. Malachite was returned the winner after showing a high flight of speed from start to finish. Taking the lead while going to the first turn, she set a fast pace, running the first three-quarters in close to 1:13, and drew out to win with speed in reserve. Itlue Thistle was second after making a futile effort from the stretch turn home, and Paddy Whack outstayed the tiring Fenmouse for third place. Golden Rod showed some improvement in winning the opener over AVhirling Dun, and Plumose was an easy winner of the third after Feminist had tired from setting the early pace. Golden Vale took the steeplechase trmn Ray Rrook, which inn well considering the fact that he had been schooled only once in several mouths. Ray Rrook pulled up in a bad way after showing signs of breaking down during the runnimg of the race. A bazaar, which is being held in the village of Havre de Grace, the proceeds of which will go to a local hospital, is receiving liberal patronage from the horsemen and followers of racing. Dr. McCart.v reports that Sangallo, which was kicked tin? other day and sustained a fractifre of the knee therefrom, is doing well and that the broken bone is knitting satisfactorily. Valerie West, which was badly cut in the last race yesterday, is more seriously injured than was at first thought and probably will not race again this year. .Swoon, essaying his first start in todays opening race, is a grand looker and is .likely to develop into a good-class racer. Like all of the horses from the Kentucky Stable, he is well schooled at the barrier. After Plumoscs victory, in the third race, she was bid up from .$.".10 to ,100 by Sain I.ouis, but was protected by her owner, Fmil Uerz. Jockey Ruxton is considering an offer to go to Canada to ride for Grant Hugh Rrowne for the remainder of the racing season. Frank McGiuty. who officiated as starter at the recently-closed Kenilworth Park meeting at Detroit, was among todays arrivals. He will go to Montreal next week. .1. McLennan anil Max Ilirsch have returned after brief visits in New York. .1. J. Farrell, Jr.. departed last night for Montreal, where he will assume charge of the mutiiel department in connection with the Kempton Park meeting. It was reported this morning that there would be a dispersal sale of the stable of Fiechall 1. Keene during the Laurel meeting. Lorac and Churchill are among the members of the stable. Dave Vititoe has returned to Kentucky after a short visit here. Jockey J. Hanover has left for Kentucky where he will ride as a free lance. While galloping at the Pimlico track this morning, an imported yearling chestnut colt by Phoenix Musette, the property of K. J. Mc.Rride. ran into the outside railing and injured himself severely. Joseph Gallar, an exercise boy employed by .Mr. MeRride. was also hurt. L. A. Cassidy has annouiieed that the following owners will ship their horses to Tijuana before the close of the .Maryland season: John Powers, J. W. May. C. Buxton. Marrone Stable, Ralph D. ICarle.
