VIOLET closed a gap and outgamcd the fast-tiring ELLEN SMYTH. The latter quit in the stretch after setting tho pace to the last eighth. The winner was entered for 00; no bid. MAB tired after getting to the front and just managed to outstay FRUIT CAKE. The latter was always a forward contender and finished gamely. AVAT finished fast.
