CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. A. B. Hancock, has purchased recently in England, Gallice, bay mare. 6, by Gallinule St. Cecillia by St. Serf; next dam Melody dam of Wini-freda, winner of One Thousand Guineas by Tyne-dale. Gallice is in foal to Corcyra, son of Polymelia and Peannain by Persimmon. Standing in the next still to Milestone in Al Austins barn, i a yearling, brother to that great three-year-old of a few years back, llorrtm. This colt right now is a bigger and heavier horse than his three-year-old stablemate and is a grand typo of a young race horse, which has shown trainer Austin some fine moves. Trainer W. II. Karrick has received a big consignment of yearlings at Belmont from Saratoga. There are over thirty of them, and as he already hail ton or a dozen in his stable, which were bought at the summer sales, he should have a strong juvenile division for the coming winter. These yearlings are the property of Schuyler L. Parsons, the Oneck Stable, Glen Riddle Farms and other owners. Vivid, the son of AH Gold and Jersey Lightning, which raced under the silks of Harry Payne Whitney, is dead at the Brookdale Farm in New Jersey. This two-year-old could not be considered altogether a success in a racing way. but in seven starts he was only twice outside the money. His best race was in the running of the Nursery Stakes at Belmont Park, when he was just nosed out by Hourless and Straight Forward. It will be remembered that Hourless was disqualified in that running, placing Vivid second. A. J. Joyner. after having seen Mr. Coes imported colt, Jack Mount, making a good showing among the two-year-olds of 1916, quietly sent over the water aud bought his dam, Catana, S years old, by Galloazzo, and it is expected that the mare will arrive in this country shortly. It was Joyner who bought and imported Jack Mount early in his yearling form and afterward sold him to Mr. Coe. so that he knew just where to look for his dam when he wanted her. She has been mated with the high-priced Prince Palatine, but it is considered doubtful if she is foal. Owner Macomber wired trainer Jennings last Wednesday morning to declare Star Hawk from the St. Legcr to be run at Churchill Downs Thursday. The owner did not fancy the impost of 128 pounds on his great three-year-old in a race of two miles and a quarter. Mr. Macomber was anxious to run his colt in all three of Kentuckys long distance events this fall and would have stood for a couple of pounds increase on Star Hawk and a corresponding drop on the contenders, but didnt care to take a chance on injuring the colts future by asking him to perform the task assigned him in the St. Legcr.
