SANDS OF PLEASURES DAY FIRST IN THE AUTUMN STAKES AT LATONIA IN A CLOSE FINISH WITH HOCNIR. Weather Still Disagreeable and the Going Heavy Hodeo Cut Off and Beaten Hint of a Now Race Track Crops Up Again. Cincinnati, O., October 21. George M. TCendries Sands of Pleasure was victor in the Autumn Stakes, worth ,730 net, featuring; this afternoons Latonia program of seven races. The horse was by far the best anil had to be to win, as he was away slowly and far out of contention until in the last quarter, where his rider took advantage of the others swinging wide and, by turning for the inner rail, saved an immense amount of ground. This enabled him to overtake Hoenir, which, also by saving ground, had displaced Sleeth from the lead. Sleeth, as the race was run, should have won, but Goose blundered seriously by taking him extremely wide while leading on the stretch turn and it cost him much ground. Jockey Hunts poorly-judged ride was held to be partly to blame for Hodges failure in the preceding race, a mile and an eighth handicap, in which he was always last in the field of three starters. King Gorin was the victor, with Star Jasmine in second place. Hodge was moving into the lead with n great rush when Hunt guided him into an impossible opening, resulting in his being forced far back when King Gorin cut him off. Disagreeable weather conditions were again the order here. The cold and threatening weather held the attendance clown to somewhat small numbers for this track. The course was again a quagmire. Speculation was of fairly good proportions. Despite the handicap of bad weather and track the racing was interesting. .7. M. Henry, Jr. and Walter II. Pearce, joint owners in the horse Knebelkamp, appeared before the stewards this afternoon, and complained that W. V. Walsh had tried yesterday, following Knobel-kamps defeat by Hen Hampson, to influence trainer William Perkins to claim Knebelkamp. The stewards had Perkins and Walsh before them later and will go deeper into the affair. The stewards dismissed the complaint of W. II. Pearce because his allegations lacked support. The securing of an option of eighty-one acres of land by a local firm of attorneys, gave rise to a rumor that another track is in contemplation here. The ground comprises the Gun Club quarters in Itosedale, and a track adjacent to it. The parties who took the option are non committal as to what use the ground will be put to If purchased. Penrod waas raced this afternoon without blinkers, but with the addition of spurs and it had the good effect of making him leave the barrier with the others. W. T. Martin will ship Waterbass, Waterproof and others in his string to J. D. Carrs farm near Lexington, where they will be wintered. Mr. Martin will himself go to his home near Nashville, Tenn., to remain until spring. Gallaher Bros. seven horses racing here will be shipped to Lexington at the close of the Latonia meeting, to joint the twelve yearlings they have, and be wintered at the Kentucky Associations course. John F. Schorr will ship his horses to Lexington after Latonia racing ends, and later on will send them to New Orleans for the racing there. 13. W. Moore will shin part of his stable to Maryland at the close of racing here and later reship the Maryland division to New Orleans to join those ho will send there direct from here.
