BROWN TO WITHDRAW IF PAID HIS PRICE. New Orleans, La., October 20. Strong opposition by the directors of the Business Mens Racing Association to paying H. D. Brown 00,000 for the City Park race track developed today and as a result, a deal by which Mr. Brown agreed to with-draAV from racing in New Orleans if paid the above sum, hangs in abeyance. It Avill be taken up again by the directors of the Business Mens Racing Association tonight at a special meeting. Many believe that cooler counsel among the Business Mens Racing Association will prevail and that Mr. Browns proposition, Avhich Avill end the race track controversy, will be accepted. Mr. BroAvn lias signed an agreement to withdraw from the local field if paid 00,000 for City Park and if races are not conducted here, except during the time betAveea January 1 each year and Mardi Gras Day. Christopher J. FitzGerald, acting as agent for Mr. Brown, conferred with City Attorney I. D. Moore, J. R. Reilly and W. P. Ball. He Avas joined in this by Gen. T. M. Miller, counsel for Mr. Bnnvn. These meetings lasted all Monday and Tuesday until after the ordinance Aas passed regulating rac ins here. Messre. Fitz Gerald and Miller conveyed to Mr. BroAA-n the results of their visit to the city hall. Avith the result that the HaA-ana promoter signed a document which Mr. Fitz Gerald took to the city hall. Those in faA-or of accepting the Drown proposition say that Mr. Brown Avill not be making money on the deal. He bought City Park for 75,000, has paid taxes amounting to ,000 and has spent about 8,000 in improvements. He has lawyers fees to pay and is alleged to have lost 0,000 in a newspaper A-euture here.
