MUDDY OPENING AT BOWIE BIG ATTENDANCE AND SPLENDID RACING UNDER SOMEWHAT ADVERSE CONDITIONS. Kraft Stable in Luck and Captures Two Races Water Lady a Victress in the Feature Race of the Afternoon. Baltimore, Md.. November 14. The final eastern meeting for the racing season of 191G, opened this afternoon at Bowie before a large gathering A. well arranged program was provided by Secretary Joseph McLennan and interesting contests were the order. F E Kt-aft furnished two of the winners in Dandy Dude and Lady Little, which won the second and third races. Both won their races by small margins in driving finishes and victory in both instances resulted from the wisdom shown by their riders m taking the shortest way home when entering the homestretch, where the leaders swung wide. The track was of the drying out type, but owing to the sandy nature of the soil it was not lumpy. The feature race, the Inaugural Handican at seven-eighths, went to Mrs. James Arthurs Water Lady, which came from the rear and won by a length from Thornhill. Like most of the other winners, Water Lady ran close to the rail when entering the homestretch. Thornhill, after beginning slowly, worked his way up on the outside and finished with a rush. Speculation during the afternoon was keen and the full quota of regulars was on hand. With any sort of pleasant weather the meeting promises to lA a huge success. The plant has been greatly improved since last spring and the betting enclosure has been enlarged and is now enclosed on three sides. The track proper has been resoiled and is now faster than at any time since it was constructed. Four of the horses in the Marrone stable will be turned over to Harry Herron, who will take them from New ork to Cuba.
