4 j, WINNINGS OF THE SMALL STABLE OF HORSES RACED BY H. C. HALLENBECK THIS YEAR A i Only five horses raced in II. C. Hallenbecks colors this year, but one of them was a host in himself. This was The Finn, unquestionably the best four-year-old colt of the year. His initial success came when he won the Metropolitan Handicap May 25, and ran its mile in 1:38 ivith 120 pounds up. Then something befell him and he trained off so badly that for quite a time he was really of little account in racing. But at Saratoga. August 12, lie demonstrated returning health and form, when lie defeated Stromboli, Pennant and Short Grass in the Champlain Handicap. In the autumn racing he was almost invincible, winning five of his last seven races and being placed in the other two. Perhaps his best performance was in the Havre de Grace Handicap at a mile and an eighth, when he ran the distance in 1:52 over a slow track with 129 pounds up, defeating Spur, Borrow, Stromboli, Roamer, Bayberry Candle, Short Grass and Daddys Choice. Of the other Hallenbeek horses. Blue Thistle was quite a good winner, but My Donnie, Harry Junior and Meadoworth were failures. The record of the stable was: Horse. Col. and Sex. A.
