JOCKEYS WHO RODE THE STAKE WINNERS. J. McTaggart the Leader in Number and Value of Stako Races Won This Year. Chiefly through his victorious mounts in the Hopeful and Futurity Stakes, Johnny McTaggart has been easily the biggest stake-winning jockey of the year. He, however, not only guided the winning colt in this most valuable stake of the year, but he also won the greatest number of stake features eighteen in all. F. Robinson, the only boy who has excelled McTaggart in the number of winning mounts in all kinds of races, to date, is second to McTaggart in the number of stake victories, but has to surrender second place in the stake winnings of his mounts to E. Haynes, who won but eleven such features, one less even than A. Sehuttinger, the stake earnings of whose mounts do not rank him better than seventh for the year. Campfire was McTaggarts "winning ticket," with his victories in the Hopeful, the Futurity and the Saratoga Special, to say nothing of lesser events. Campfire was beaten but once with McTaggart in the saddle, that being when Arnold took his measure in a purse race at. Jamaica, June 22. In Campfires defeats in the Keene Memorial Stakes, at Belmont, when he ran second to Ivory Black, and the United States Hotel Stakes at Saratoga, when he ran last in a field of eleven, he was ridden by Sehuttinger.. Among the steeplechase riders V. Powers has a good margin over F. Williams in the value of their winning mounts in stake events, although each scored the same number of stake victories. L. McAtee was notably successful among the light division riders, no other boy able to ride at ninety-four pounds being anything like as successful as he was in stake events, and one with so many mounts having as good a percentage for riding winners of all kinds of races during the year.
