NEW ORLEANS TRACK CONDITIONS BAD. Horses Not Allowed to Work Over It Yesterday-Numerous Arrivals of Men and Racers. New Orleans, La., December 25. Nominations to the New Years Handicap, which will be run on the opening day of the meeting, closed today and racing secretary McLennan announced that there was a large number of them. He will give out the list tomorrow and on Thursday will announce the weights. Owing to the wretched condition of the Fair Grounds, track, no horses were allowed to work over it this morning. The course was six inches deep in mud and the "floats" were used on it all morning. If there is no further rain the track will be opened again tomorrow. John Walters four horses arrived safely from the Hcndrie farm at Nashville, Tenn. He has George M. Hendries crack long distance horse Rancher, in the shipment and said today that he would give the son of Galveston plenty of racing here this winter. He also had Raggedy Man, Sands of 1Ieasurc and Sharp Frost. The latter is an imported horse. The work of distributing the owners, trainers, jockeys and stable badges was begun today by Julius Reeder. Among the days arrivals were Leo Mayer, who will operate in the Palm Garden at the coming meeting, and John Rice. E. It. Bradley, whose big string of horses is wintering at Charleston, S. C, is expected tomorrow. Judge Murphy will return from St. Louis Wednesday morning. The announcement of the first list of stakeholders to work in the Palm Garden will be made Thursday. i I i r I a J f y o ? u
