JOCKEY PROUT GOES TO THE JUMPERS. It is only a season or two ago that J. Prout was one of the fashionable lightweight jockeys. He was apprenticed to the Hon. G. I.ambton. and rode many important winners for the Stanley House stable. Becoming too heavy for flat racing, he joined the army, but was discharged on its being discovered that he was not of military age. On Saturday. De comber 9. at Newbury. Prout had his first mount over hurdles, on Melkarth. Right well did the horse run. and Prout showed he has only to get on the right "cattle" to ride plenty of winners under National Hunt rules. — London Sporting Life.
