t — ; 1 ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE THIRTY LEADING MONEY WINNING TWO-YEAR-OLDS OF LAST YEAR i__ , . 1 The most fascinating feature of racing is that annually furnished by the running of the two-year-olds. The average race-goer flatters himself that he knows pretty well what the older horses can be expected to do. Of course, he does not. bat it is hope and the secret private belief in his own judgment of racing form that sends him to the track, confident that some day he will shear the golden fleece of which he dreams. It is different with the two-year-olds. Attaching to them are all the delights of things yet to be discovered. For instance, there is in the Wickliffe Stable, right now, a brown two-year-old colt by Colin — Midge, the dam of Luke McLuke. With such racing and breeding, antecedents, should not this colt be a topsawyer. Of course, he should, but if he proves to be not worth forty cents in actual racing, he will still have a following, obstinately sure that in time such imperial breeding must bear fruit in race track success. This case is not alone. In the entries to the Hopeful Stakes of this year are several score in which anticipation could justifiably center. And so it is each year, and so it will continue. The heroes of last year were chiefly discoveries. There was no talk of Campfire in spring gossip. Even after Hourless had won his first race, his able trainer. Sam Ilildreth. did not think much of him and said so. In the case of the Schorr crack. Harry Kelly, it was different. Reports of his superior speed and promise were current through the winter and spring. More to the purpose, he made good as soon as he was given a chance. For a brief space Old Kosebuds half brother. Ivory Black, seemed destined to great eminence. But misfortune overtook him and. whether he is really a star or not, still is undisclosed. Some of the Whitney two-year-olds proved good, but not great. Westy Hogans racing in the fall made him out to be as good as any two-year-old then in action. If the Schorr three-year-old. Cudgel, has a right, based on performances, to be considered in connection with Kentucky Derby honors, Westy Hogan. by the same token, should be hailed as its winner now. There were good, sturdy and reliable two-year-olds in our racing of 1910. and what the thirty most fortunate of them did in the w;:y of gathering money for their owners, is here shown: Horse. Col..
