Cincinnati, Ohio, February 3. — In announcing his spring Make tMM for Latonia and Douglas Park today, general manager Hachmeister also added tlie much discussed 0,000 stake to be run at Latonia during the fall meeting of 1919. Mr. Haclimeistcr has been in touch with members of the Thoroughbred breeders Association for same time going over the details of tht- big stake and has secured their rnai.imou-- endorsement to tlie event. It is an ambitious undertaking for the Latonia Jockey Club, but Mr. Hachmeister believes that the stakes will do wonders for tlie breeding industry and be a general help to the racing situation throughout the eoantry. He looks to tlie breeders for support and believes he should receive every consideration ;;t their hands. The stake is for foals of 1910 and will close ,,n March 1. Thus the colls and fillies entered for it will be just aliout one year of age when the entry lo. s in. The distance of the race will be one mile ..iid a half and the first entry fee will be ten dollars. This will be the only entry fee for which the bi.-ed r will lie liable, providing he files with the Jock y riuh the propi r transfer of the engagement ami it is accepted by tlie lub. It may sound big to say that the stake will tie worth $ 40.000. but Manager Ilai hineister has been most conservative in his figures. Here is how he figures out that tlie gross valuation should be over .0,000: Three hundred original entries at 0 ,000 De hired November 1. 1917, free Declared May 1. 1918, 100 at 0 4.000 Declared January 1. 1919, seventy-five at 5 MM remaining in alter January 1. 1919, seventy-five « at 00 7,500 :: opening of urate. There is a clause Which states "the entry fee of 0 paid at time of entry, is the only payment for which the original nominator shall be liable, providing ■Taper transfer of the engagement has lieen filed with au.l accepted by the club." A. 15. Hancock, the breeder, is one of those who is enthusiastic over the stakes. He has all along declared that it will close on March 1 with 400 nominations, but Manager Hachmeister will be well satisfied if 3H are named for the first year. It is on a 300 basis that he has made his calculations that tile -takes will have a value of 0,00*. In talking aliout the stakes Mr. Hachmeister said: "All we need now to make this the greatest event ever run in America is the support of the big breeders. They hae a chance now to get seme big money for practically nothing. It should enhance the value 0f every foal which has any pretense to good class whatsoever. " In addition to tiie announcement of the Latonia Championship stakes the spring feature events for Latonia ami Douglas Park are made public. The list includes all the old popular stakes of the last spring meeting, the Latonia Derby and the Kentucky Handicap being the features. Both of these stakes have au added valuation of 0,000 and they are rich enough to attract the best horses both east and west. At Douglas Park three other stakes are offered for the thirteen days meeting which begins May 20 and terminates June 9. For the twenty-one day meeting at Latonia, beginning June 11 and ending on July 4. nine stakes will be run. Next to the Derby the Cincinnati Trophy with ,000 added is the big attraction. It is expected that only the Hopeful Stakes and the Futurity in the east will : urpass this stains in net value.
