BALLYMACAD TAKES THE BIG STEEPLECHASE. The "War National" Steeplechase, substitute for the I.i : d Grand National, was run at Gatwick, Bnglund, Wednesday, and was wsa by sir G. Bal-toughs bay gelding BaUymacad, by Laveuo- Bally-uacaruey, 138 pounds, with H. Trimmers chestnut gelding Chang, by Cupid— Threnody, 183 pounds, i ;. aed Lady Nehums bay getdiag Ally Bhtper, by I ravelling Lad sally in our ABey, 164 pounds, third. Tin- plaits were filled by oiit-ielers i» the b tting. it being MO to !1 against the winner. .V . to 1 against Chang and 24 to 1 against Ally Sloper. the latter was the winner of the last Liverpool rand Nationil. The race was for a S-VMl cup added to ,300 and a sweepstakes of 00 each for ptors. Carrig Park eras the favorite, but fell and brought down six others. Nineteen rail.
