P.owie. Md.. April a. — Horses that race best in soft gi ing had their inning at Bowie this afternoon and P. I.. Short furnished two of the winners in Parlor Boy and Pin Money. Iw th of which are good mud runners. A drizzling rain set in this morning, accompanied by cold, raw winds, which made the course none too comfortable. Inder the conditions, a surprisingly large crowd was on ham! ami speculation was keen. K. T. ZollioolTors consistent filly Pratt Cake scored her second victory at the meeting, when she won the feature race, the Preliminary Handicap, a dash of three-quarters. Kruit Cake made all the pace and won with speed in reserve by three lengths from Mac Kox. The latter is one of the Mirasol stable horses that came up from Charleston. Incidentally the Mirasol stable furnished the winner of the two jrear old race in Kan Tan and her owner. Air. II. Watteraaa, came ever from New York to see her run. Jockey Krauk Kobinson was taken ill after riding Brickl- y in tin1 second race and was forced to .-ancel his other mounts during the afternoon. A carload of horses are due to arrive at Havre de Grace from Tijuana shortly. The question of stalls at this papaasW course is a big fait; I with the horsemen right now. as every stall on the grounds has been assigned. George D. Smith. Steve Davidson. J. W. Baals it and C. B. Morg.in;haller. all former owners of good horses were among todays arrival-. Kdward Mi-Briiie has secured first call on jockey Wakoff for the Bow i". Havre de Jrace and Pimlico meetings. Charles Graad has decided to ride through the field during the coming summer and has signed a contract to ride the jumpers owned by Joseph E. Davis. They are in charge of that capable trainer L. Tin- sprinter Silver Bill was the only one of the seven horses that 1. S. Wishard brought to Cuba last fall that had ever won a race. Despite this. he won a good share of the purses. Silver Bill was worked betweea two mules and helped plow l." 0 acres of wheat. The Wishard stable will be shipped to Canada at the conclusion of the Maryland meetings and it is expected several :.iditions will b. made to the string, as the stable is a BUjbBc oil".
