NEW RACING DISTRICT TO BE OPENED. Three-Day Meeting- to Be Conducted at Wilmington, Delaware, Starting May 17. ItlHIaai . Mil.. April 30. — The announcement of a race meeting nt Wawnset Bark. AViImingLoii. May 17. is I.iid lit, will open up an entirely new racing district, and many of the sportsmen in the vicinity are determined to make the new track a success. To that end some of those who have promised to send horses over for the meeting are Captain E. B. Casaatt, Thomas Clyde. Oaiiiicy Stable, W. L. Oliver, Frank Frisbie, Samuel ! . Kiddle, Samuel Ross, Archie Qaaer, N. K. Brail. Joseph E. Davis, Joseph !•:. Whfeaer, Rlehaid F. Carman, William Garth, Bill Parr. Herbert L. Br.itt, Woods Stockton, Ed-v.ard McBrida nnd several others. The track is fostered by prominent people in Delaware. Bennsylvi.ni.i and Maryland. Edmund P. Moody is chairman of the committee in charge of the racing, and his fellow members are William Dulont. James P. Winchester, Joseph II. Hossinger and L. Scott Townsend. Luke A. Caanhty his been appointed racing secretary, and Henry J. Morris of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association, has been invited to act as presiding steward. Tlie program that has been prepared provides for five races daily, with no purse of less than 00, while there will be $«.tX0 distributed among the horsemen for the three days of s|K»rt. The track over which the races will be decided is 1111 excellent one, and it is equipped with a steel grandstand. There are stabling quarters for 350 horses. The association owns 790 acres adjoining the present grounds, and it is the intention to contract a steeplechase course and make that picturesque end of the sport a part of the faU program.
