KENTUCKY HANDICAP ANTICIPATIONS. About Fifteen of the Eligiblcs Expected to Start, All Fast and Noted Horses. By C. A. Bergin. Louisville. Ky.. May 24. — It is a rather remarkable coincidence that with but two exceptions, all of the eleven barters in last years renewal of the 0,000 Kentucky Handicap are to he found iu the list of eligiblcs to this years running of the rich stake, nine of the number are again candidates for the prize, which next to the Kentucky Derby is the most valuable stake oT the local season. This list embraces Ed Crump, which carried 121 pounds, and scored by a half length over Koamer, which carried the crushing impost of 132 pounds. Water Witch. lightly weighted, beat Hodge for third money. The others finished in the following order: Royal II.. Dick Williams. Waterblossom, Hank ODay, Marion Goosby. Borrow. Old Koenig. Ed Crump won in the colors of J. W. Schorr, but this year he will race for A. K. Macombcr. T. C. McDowells Waterblossom, and the Bever-wyck Stables Old Koenig. are the only ones in this list that were not renominated. The first named is now out of training, which accounts for owner McDowell not naming her. Old Koenig was not entered by trainer Charles Hughes, as he thought the stables plans would not permit the horse to fill the engagement. This horse is iu rare good form, as evidenced by bis corking good races at the Downs meeting. Ho will be seen under colors in the Metropolitan and other handicaps on the New York tracks. It is not outside the range of possibility that every one of the nine enumerated above will again battle for firt money this year. All are in active training for the race and are going along soundly. Crack Trio to Represent A. K. Macomber. Ed rump. Dick Williams ami Hank ODay are now members of the A. K. Macoinlx r establishment, and iti all pro liability trainer Jennings will elect to start all three. The stables luck has been any thing but good this year, and a victory in the Kentucky Handicap would compensate it for its un fortunate showing up to the present. John W. Schorr, who was gratified by Ed Crumps victory last year, again has designs on the stake. This year his reliance will be the three y.-nr-olil Cudgel. Which ran out of the money iu the Ken lucky Derby and sul.se.iuently recovered his form by winning two good races. This son of Rroomstick Eugenia i.urch will get in light, and on his present good foim l.e must be considered in the calculations. Andrew Millers Ronnie: . which gave Ed Crump chunks of weight and was barely beaten by the Schorr colt in last years race, K again an active and dangerous candidate for this years first hou -MS. The -on of Knight Frrant Rose Tree II. was not at his best last year and the day he was lieateu by Ed Crump he was fur from being in lighting trim. He showed the best form of his career whin he was a four-year-old and previous to his race of last Saturday, trainer GaMabaraasra declared the bars* was equally as g I as he was two years ago. His defeat by Old Rosebud la-t we. k was undoubtedly ceased by one of his plates becoming loose when be struck himself at the bar rier. It is not believed he • ulTered any injury from the mishap. Hi- trainer is confident that the great Bane will make fall amends for his recent defeat when he fills his engagement in the Ken tin ky Handicap. Hodge Looming Up Strongly. Water Witch and Hodge, both prominent contend ers in last years race, are again looming up iu this seasons r. m-wal. Neither has been given much racing this season. King reserved for the big contest. Itoth have been working to the entire satisfaction of their respective trainers. The same applies |o lioyal II. and Marion Cooshy. which will both be dealt with lightly by the hamii-capper. One of the strongest factors to be reckoned with is Jefferson Livingstons Colonel Yetinie. winner of two races, including the Camden Handicap, and with an uulH-ateii record in Kentucky this spring. This crack racer is a newcomer to the list of handi cap horses. Las! year he was not regarded highly, but since the heginiiin:: of the New Orleans campaign, he has taken wonderful strides, that have landed him in the forefront of the handicap divi sioti. Trailer Goldblalt has not demanded much racing of the horse, preferring to reserve him tor the numerous rich stakes iu which he has ben entered. In all likelihood about fifteen starters will face the barrier in the Kentucky Handicap, this field being drawn from the following list: Ed Crump. Dick Williams. Hank ODay, Colonel Vennie. Koamer. Midway. Cudgel, Old Rosebud. Iif Jr., Hedge, Water Witch. Royal 11.. Opportunity. Marion Goosby, Embroidery, Least Misha, Skeptic and Uateiiord. On the basis of fifteen starters, the winners share of the stakes will amount to 2,250. The sec oiul horse will receive .,500. the third horse 8883 and the fourth will save his stake. Weights will be made public by Secretary J. B. Campbell next Tuesday.
