FRUIT CAKE TO THE FRONT AGAIN. Gamely Overcomes Early Interference to Win Handicap Feature at Devonshire. Windsor. Out.. June TJ.— Favored with ideal racing weather, a good-sized crowd came out to Devonshire Park today for the third afternoons sport of the summer meeting. The races were all well contested, there being little to choose lietween Harry I... Eulogy and Langhoriie in the fourth race. This race was won by the former, •which ran a game race and stood a hard drive throughout the stretch to win by a nose. The betting in the machines has been increasing every day and the management here is unite satisfied with the meeting to date. The class of horses racing here is much better than have been previously competing at Devonshire since the track first opened. The officials are doing their utmost to check any rough riding on the part of the boys, and, as a result, it has been conspicuous by its absence. Howard .lots scored a victory in the second race when his three -year-old Aristobulus came home in front. The colt won by a narrow margin and the victory was a popular one. The feature race of the afternoon was the Ouellette Handicap, fashioned for three-year-olds and over. This race brought together a small but select field and was won bar K. T. Zollicoffers good three-year-old filly Fruit Cake. She suffered from early interference, but ran a game race, standing ii hard drive throughout the stretch. J. B. Goodmans Gipsey George finished second, while CrumiH-sall, which set the early pace, was third. Starter E. Tribe placed Souvenir and Ash Can on the schooling list for fraction, behavior at the post in the third race. Jockey F. Merimee leaves for Montreal tonight, where he will ride Christie in the selling stake at Blue Bonnets. Jake Holtman. the famous old-time starter, was a visitor at the course today, coming up from Louisville. A. Shearer, the builder of the new pari-mutuel house at Mount Royal Park, Montreal, reports that the plant is rapidly nearing completion and that there will be twenty -five machines and thirty -five cashiers on hand for the meeting, which ia scheduled to open in the near future. |
