CLARK WILL NOT RACE DURING WAR. San Francisco. CaL, June 12. — Charles W. Clark, president of the Golden Gate. Thoroughbred Breeders Association, and proprietor of the El Paiomar Stock Farm of San Mateo, announced tonight on his return from Arizona that he has decided to dis- 1 continue racing during the duration of the war. He has accordingly ordered his trainer. John Lowe, to sell all his horses that have been competing at New Orleans. Kentucky and New York. Clark declared that he does not consider it patriotic to engage in the turf sport while this country is engaged in the serious operation of making war on Germany. He says that be will continue breeding thoroughbreds at his El Paiomar farm and will do all in his power in assisting in the improvement of remounts for the cavalry. He has the stallion Chantilly and some thirty brood mares on the place. Among the horses that John Lowe took east and will be sold are Brynlimah. Pleasureville, Rose Marion. Kavid Craig. Kl Paiomar. Latham. Durward Roberts, Birdie. Gun Powder, Taesor, Zip and Wow, the last two being two-year-olds by Chantilly that have won two racea apiece so far this season. Other California breeders and owners do not hold the same views as Clark and will continue racing their horses. They argue that it is the only way that the breed for cavalry remounts can be improved. James W. Coffroth has left for Tijuana to make arrangements for the opening of the fall meeting. ■ -
