OPENING DAY AT GRAND RAPIDS. Grand Rapids, JMich., July 3. With more than 400 horses quartered at the track, and indications favoring ideal weather and a fast track, this city will usher in the first annual summer meeting of the West Michigan State Fair and Racing Association. The pari-mutuel system of wagering will be used. More than fifty horses .are carded to start in the seven races, of which the fourth, a handicap at three-quarters of a mile, is the feature offering. Everything is in thorough readiness, with all the officials on hand. Joseph A. Murphy is the general manager as well as presiding judge, while Herman P. Conkling will be associate judge and clerk of the scales. William Snyder will do the starting.
