POMP set a fast pace from the start and, racing" SIR OLIVER into defeat in the first half, drew away into a long lead in the last eighth. SWEETER THAN SUGAR ran well and outstayed SWIFT FOX in the final drive. The latter was shulTled back at the start und could never get to the front, but finished gamely. KATHRYN GRAY ran well. GALLEY HEAD was taken back and saved to the stretch, then moved up and, wearing COPPER KING down in the stretch, outstayed REX GAIETY at the end. REX GAIETY closed a big gap and finished fast. PEPPER SAUCE also made up ground and finished with a rush. FAIR MONTAGUE wheeled when the barrier was released and was as good as left. COPPER KING tired after setting the pace to the lust eighth.
