AUSPICIOUS OPENING AT GRAND RAPIDS. Grand Rapids, Mich., July 4. The ten-day meeting of tho West Michigan State Fair Association opened this afternoon at Comstock Park under favorable conditions nnd a large attendance present. J. W. Fullers Col. Marchniont won the most pretentious offering of the day, the fourth race, at one and one-sixteenth miles, defeating Impression in tho filial strides of a terrific closing drive. Favorites fared well, Scrutineer being the only one at long odds to score during the afternoon.
