HOURLESS BEST ON FAST TRACK. Now York, July 14. S. C. Hililreth said that Ilourlrss never had appeared better and more fit in his life than lie did the morning after his defeat in the Brooklyn Derby. "I have no excuse to niake for him except that he could not run in that kind of going," trainer Hildreth added "He came out all right and the race did not do him any harm, but the running clenrly showed that he could not run freely in that kind of footing. Before the race I had no means of knowing whether he would like the going or not, but now I have the best of reasons for knowing that it was not to his liking, and I do not think any the less of him for his failure to win. I shall not ask him to run over that kind of n track again. At. Belmont Park the track was wet, but the bottom was firm and hard and he had no trouble in disposing of his rivals. A wet track at Belmont Park is something different from a wet track at Aqueduct. "In saying this I do not for a moment wish to take any credit from Omar Khayyam. He is undoubtedly n great colt and no one knows how great he may turn out to be, but for the present, at least, I am far from being convinced that he is a better colt than Hourless and I shall not think that he is until after I have seen him beat Mr. IJelmonts colt under better track conditions."
