In the absence of racing in England, owners there took considerable interest in the big Irish race and several sent representatives across the channel to ttfke part in the event. One Of these. Sir W J Tatems bay colt Argosy, by Bachelors Double 1 fragrant, was the post favorite at 2 to 1, but the best he could do was to finish second. Ten started and at the finish of a good race, the Irish owner .1. .1. Parkinson had the pleasure of seeing his bav colt First Flier, by Henry the First Grey Flier come home first by five lengths, with Argosy second and Mortimer Singers bay colt Dresden, by Santm Betsy Jane, third. The mile and a half of the race was covered in 2:30 and the net value to the winner was 3,125. The winner was at . to 1 in the betting. The English colt Kingston Black, second choice at 22 to 1, was left at the post. First Flier is truly a bargain horse. Ho was bred by Mr. J. Musker in England and was bought by his present owner as a yearling at auction for tho modest sum of 35 guineas, or 82.
