UPSET IN WINDSOR FEATURE. SMART MONEY, MEDIUM OF HEAVY BACKING, FAILS DISMALLY IN HANDICAP. Winner Turns Up in Waukeag from Stable of V. J. Press Canadian Racing Associations Hold Meeting Jockey Peak Granted a License Windsor, Ont., July 17. The mile and a sixteenth handicap, which Avas featured by the Windsor Jockey Club this afternoon, furnished an upset, the winner coming from the stable of W. J. Press, whoso Waukeag beat Priscilla Mullens bv eighth lengths. Smart Money was made the medium of heavy backing, but his chances were ruined by being raced into exhaustion in making the early pace, which was fast considering the going. When the real racing came, Smart Money tired badly. Tho winner, Waukeag, came from a long way back and, moving up with a rush on the far turn, drew away into a long lead in tho last eighth. Grumpy stumbled several times during the race and raced in a disappointing manner. The going was deep and heavy and it took a stout hearted horse to run over the track. It was announced that no more licenses would 1e granted by the Canadian Racing Association this year. A majority of the stables taking part in this meeting will move over to Kenilworth at its conclusion. G. II. Keenc got in from Grand Rapids with his string this morning and will remain -over for tho meeting at Kenilworth. At the conclusion of the racing here five carloads of horses will be shipped to Havre de Grace, three carloads to Saratoga and the others to Kentucky. Trainers and Jockeys Licenses Granted. Previous to tho races this afternoon, the Canadian Racing Associations held a meeting at the club house at Windsor. The following were granted licenses: Trainers C. N. Darke, G. Arvin, J. G. Arvin, G. W. Dodge, J. Coffey, J. G. Russey, D. R. Freeman, T. P. Hayes, S. Judge, L. Marion. P. J. Miles, .C- J- Stockier, R. K. Watkins, F. D. Weir, E. F. Wright. Jockeys II. Grey, T. F. Henry, J. Metcalf, J. J. Morris, C. R. Peak, E. Pool, II. Thurbor, C. Tudor, R. C. Watts, L. Garner and II. Lunsford. G. Tj. Strang was refused a license and the future entries made in the name of Mrs. G.. L. Strang were ordered refused. The protest made by II. Miodow, owner of Montreal, against payment of the purse won by Doniin- IOI, KuIk in il r,ue r,m at 1,1,e Bonnets, which called for maiden riders, was allowed on the ground that jockey Birmingham,, who rode Dominion Park 111 that race, was not a niaiden jockey. It was decided that Birmingham had ridden a winner at a fair held in London, Ont. The purse was awarded to Montreal, which stands as the winner of the race. At the conclusion of the present meeting he will go to Saratoga with the stable and ride Old Rosebud 111 his eastern stake engagements. John Carey, paddock judge at New Orleans, and more recently connected as an official at the Fair .rounds track, New Orleans, was a visitor here this afternoon. Mr. Carey is here in the interest of the meeting to be given at the Thorncliffo track in Toronto.
