BROMO BEATS ST. ISIDORE. BUNS AWAY FROM THE LATTER IN THE STRETCH TO WIN IN A CANTER. Recount Wins All the Way in the Sprightful Stakes Tippity Witcliot Runs Unplaced and Goes to a New Owner. 1 New York, July 21. L. S. Thompsons good four-year-old Bromo maintained his speed lo a victory over a considerable distance of ground for the first time this year, when he led home a pood band of handicap racers in the Red Cross Handicap at Empire City this afternoon. Tills mile and a sixteenth race featured the charity day program and attracted a large crowd to the hilltop course. There was little to the race but Bromo and the son of Broomstick gave his followers little uneasiness. Away well, he was saved behind St. Isidore until rounding the final turn, when he moved up with a rush and readily took the lead. When swinging for home he had his opponents well beaten and at the end was only cantering, to score a five lengths victory. St. Isidore, after making the early running, was unable to withstand the rush of I.romo, but had little trouble in defeating the others of the field. At the end he was being cased up and easily took second place from Ballad, which closed up with a rush at the end. Andrew Millers two-year-old Recount, raced to the promiso of his work for the first time this year when he scored a victory in the Sprightful Selling Stakes, the secondary feature of the afternoons sport. The Miller colt was the quickest :it the barrier and, beginning fast, went to the front, never to be headed. IMght at the start he swerved to the inside, slightly interfering with Dawn Star. Lykes entered a claim of foul, but after deliberation, the stewards allowed the result to stand. Dawn Star was the one to race to second place, coining fast through the final quarter, but never seriously threatening the winner. Oory-don, away slowly, closed n gap in the early running, but was tiriiig at the end. Tippity AVitchet, the prohibitive" Choice, raced disappointingly. ,JlUJarry Fink, represented in the Sprightful Stakes iyj Hypnotism, claimed Tippity Witchet for ,000. HtftfHtoiie II., winner of the fifth race, was bid up from 00 to ,000 by Harry Fink and sold at that price. Joe Short of Troy, a trainer of the old school, is among the recent arrivals at the course. J. O. Talbott has purchased the three-year-old Piraeus from A. II. Morris at private terms. Weights for the Yonkers Handicap, the mile and a sixteenth feature of Saturdays racing, have been issued and of- the probable starters, Borrow beads the list with 128 pounds. Koanicr is asked to take up 1-4 pounds, Spur 122 and St. Isidore, 115.
